Great wines start with high-quality grapes. Each
vineyard Page Mill Winery works with has dedicated a portion of
the vineyard to Page Mill so that the grapes come from the same
vines each year. Dane makes the decision as to when to pick and
personally supervises each harvest. He trucks the grapes in small
lug boxes so that the grapes are completely whole
when crushed at the winery. Browse our current
wine selection.
High Quality Grapes
- Sauvignon Blanc comes from French
CampVineyard near Paso Robles. Hank Ashby does a phenomenal job
of minimizing the grassiness typically associated with this varietal,
while maintaining a firm acidity and fresh fruit flavors.
- Chardonnay grapes come from five sources:
neighborhood vineyards include the Garbett Vineyard, the Campi
Vineyard, and the Arey Vineyard, as well as Bien Nacido Vineyard
in Santa Barbara county to the south and the Stuhlmuller Vineyard
in the Alexander Valley to the north.
- Pinot Noir was first made at Page Mill
in 1985 from Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Maria. The cool ocean-influenced
climate is perfect for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Page Mill harvests
Pinot Noir from the 'N' block and the 'Q' block and in certain
years, keep a barrel of each separate bottling it under its own
label.
- Merlot comes from O'Shaughnessy Vineyard
on the Rutherford Bench in Napa, as well as the Cote Vineyard
in Santa Clara County, both of which produce stellar wines.
- Syrah comes from the Sleepy Holler Vineyard
in Pope Valley. This mountain vineyard is 1,000 feet above the
floor of the Napa Valley, intensifying the hot days and the cold
nights.
- Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Stuhlmuller
Vineyard in the Alexander Valley and the Luchessi Vineyard in
the Santa Cruz Mountains.
- Zinfandel comes from Rachael Balyeat's
Vineyard in lower Chiles Valley where the top 15 rows are carefully
thinned for low yield
