“At the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains, along side the San Francisco Bay, the soils are deep and growing climate tempered. It’s the perfect region for fruit driven wines like the Côté Merlot.
This vineyard is quadrilateral cordons and next to running water providing for generous yield with ample canopy. It is ideal conditions for this varietal.
The Côté Vineyard is hand harvested and the wine is made as a vineyard designate wine year after year.”
Dane Stark, Owner & Winemaker
Medium ruby in color, not overly dark, but a beautiful red.
This wine opens with fresh fruit on the nose of currant, spice, hints of hard plum and rhubarb. Medium intensity entry leads to a velvety mid palate and rich tannins around the back of the palate with integrated acidity and a lingering finish. Hints of cassis, sage and dried fruit carry the mid palate to the finish and the after glow is subtle oak.
The depth of fruit and balance on the wine presage aging potential for a number of years.
Be sure to decant this wine or give it time to open up in the glass!
